KAZIMER JACHNOWIEC

June 22, 1940 - February 1, 2026

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Kazimer Jachnowiec at the age of 85 on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tania; daughters Kathy (David), Teresa (Jake) and granddaughter Sophia. He also leaves behind his sister Victoria; niece Lorraine and family and nephew Lawrence and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Katherine and Makar; brother Alex; niece Jeanette and his many cousins.

Kazimer was born in Arborg, Manitoba on June 22, 1940. He grew up on a farm north of Arborg and started working at a young age on the field. In his 20’s he then started working clearing bush with a bulldozer for Melnychuk. In 1965 he and his parents moved to Winnipeg. He then got a job working with heavy equipment opening up new roads in Northern Manitoba. Up north he developed a reputation for being one of the best operators in the business which made him an extremely valuable asset to any company he worked for. Many times, he was called upon to handle the most dangerous tasks that other operators could not perform. This got him noticed by companies closer to home. He then decided to leave the north and start working for Watsco construction building the Winnipeg floodway. After that project he got hired by Patricia Construction doing excavation work. He then started to work for Conforce Cement Co. He then moved on to work for Schreyer Construction helping to build the perimeter highway with his friend, Jim Oneschuk. During the winter months he operated heavy equipment, including clearing the snow with a grader on the streets of Winnipeg. At the same time, he started farming in Winnipeg. In 1975 he decided to purchase a tandem truck and started hauling gravel for McCurdy’s and later for Inland Aggregates and after work he would work on the farmland. He was a hard-working man with a strong work ethic. He would repair his own farm equipment and tinker with other mechanical projects improving how they operated. He enjoyed doing woodworking projects, such as building his own house on the farm from the ground up, an ice shack for fishing, and a camper to enjoy outdoor experiences. On his many fishing adventures with family, Fairford and Grand Rapids were his favourite go to places. He also enjoyed going to the forest for mushrooms and blueberries. At home he and Tania enjoyed growing large gardens and sharing the fruits of their labour with family and friends.

He used to enjoy going out with his buddies to hunt deer in the Komarno area. He also enjoyed

listening to Ukrainian folk music of the Interlake region. In his younger years he enjoyed going to Crabby Steve’s dance hall with his best friend Dennis Melnyk to hang out and party. At home he enjoyed spending time with family, friends and neighbours.

The family would like to thank the IRHA home care workers and the doctors and nurses at Selkirk regional health centre for their caregiving.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
